Chic Valentine's Day Flowers on a Budget

Marc J. Sievers

Love!  Isn’t it grand?!  With Valentine’s Day approaching I thought it would be fun to dream up some creative new ways to use the iconic flower of that day, the rose. While shopping at my local grocery store I came across some fresh spray roses in the most vibrant color of garnet. This variety of rose (also know as tea roses) get their name and look from several buds on tiny stems branching off one main stem.  They are sold in large bunches, usually for under $10 which is perfect for arranging or gifting flowers on a budget!

In my book—Entertaining with Love—and a recent webisode of From My Kitchen to Yours (Grocery Store Flowers Turned Fabulous) I explain how to arrange these mini blooms in antique cordial glasses and then scatter them around the house in different settings.

Here are a few new ideas  that will melt the heart of your Valentine:

This antique champagne coupe overflowing with fresh spray roses adds such a romantic and sophisticated feeling to my dining room sideboard. Adding antique glassware filled with flowers is a stylish addition to even the most modern of homes.

This crystal charger plate is perfect for a quick and easy centerpiece. Just remember to always use candles with no scent, you never want the scent of a candle to over-power the smell of your delicious meal. Simply stunning and perfect for dinner parties, showers, and weddings.

A grand gesture of love, done on a budget. I used simple white votive candles inside glass holders and multiple flower clusters inside my cordial glasses to create a romantic heart and arrow. You can re-create this at home on your dining table, on the floor of your bedroom entrance (naughty, naughty!), or even as part of a proposal. I can see the “little blue box” right in the middle of the heart!

Eat well, laugh often, and share the love!
